Cambridge, You Impressed ME!

Cambridge, You Impressed ME!

Cambridge, is the best city ever!!!

Ok, I’m exaggerating. I tend to say this about a lot of cities… but Cambridge? I LOVE IT!!

I recently had the privilege of visiting Cambridge over the bank holiday weekend, and I assure you, it was nothing short of a treat.

From the moment I stepped out of the station, I could already tell Cambridge had a completely different feel to it.

This is a city I’ve had on my list for YEARS. Now, whilst I may not have been lucky enough to get a place at University of Cambridge (I didn’t apply lol), I have always been fascinated by the city.

I arrived into Cambridge on Thursday evening, and was immediately greeted with a breath of fresh air (That is always the first thing you notice after leaving London 😂) Anyways it was late in the evening, so after picking up my keys after my Travelodge I had to grab a cheeky takeaway to satisfy my hunger!

Now the food scene didn't really impress me, either it was unimpressive or I had limited options because it was 12am 😂.

Anyways after that fiasco, I headed back to the hotel to properly soak in the Cambridge atmosphere and anticipate the rest of my stay.

Then came Friday.

I was up bright and early to properly explore the city, and by around 9am I was already zooming through Cambridge on a VOI scooter.

One thing I quickly realised is that Cambridge is INCREDIBLY easy to get around.

Honestly, cycling and scootering around the city quickly became one of my favourite parts of the trip. Cambridge genuinely feels built for bikes, and it’s probably one of the best ways to properly explore the city by far.

And Cambridge itself? It is simply a BEAUTIFUL city.

The River Cam meanders throughout the city, intertwining between the various colleges (ok sorry, I’m talking about the university again), and they are nothing short of breathtaking.

By midday, we were back for our punting tour across Cambridge.

We went with the Cambridge Punt Company and whilst it set us back around £40 each, it’s definitely cheaper if you book in advance.

And honestly? It was worth it.

If you ever visit Cambridge, punting is a NON-NEGOTIABLE activity.

Whilst you can see a decent bit of Cambridge on foot, punting gives you immersive access along the river through parts of the colleges and city you’d otherwise completely miss unless you had a pre-arranged walking tour.

Only thing I would say is that it was well hot (it was 28 degrees the day we went, so this may be a nicer activity to do in later afternoon or early evening).

Blocking out the heat from the sun whilst on the tour 😂

Floating through the River Cam whilst being surrounded by centuries-old architecture honestly feels like stepping into another era.

To think that some of these buildings date back more than 500 years is absolutely JAW-DROPPING.

What do you mean 500 YEARS?! Cambridge, you’re an oldie, but a goodie!

And whilst nothing tops London greenery for me personally (of course), the Cambridge colleges and green spaces do a pretty good job themselves.

The riverside green spaces, college lawns, and tree-lined sections along the River Cam make the city feel incredibly peaceful.

Some cool facts about Cambridge genuinely blew my mind too. Did you know Trinity College is apparently the third-largest landowner in the UK?!

Honestly, it felt like every corner of Cambridge had some sort of hidden story or historical significance attached to it.

I’ve always been completely enamoured by Cambridge’s WORLD-CLASS university culture, and as a nerd, I absolutely LOVE that.

This is the studying ground of many greats: Isaac Newton, David Attenborough, and even Alan Turing, who played a pivotal role in cracking codes that helped save countless lives during the war.

I mean, this city is truly remarkable.

It’s stupendously rich in culture, history, intellect, and beauty. Again, if you’re a nerd, history lover, architecture enthusiast, or simply a curious human being, you will find something fascinating about this place.

And naturally, a city like Cambridge comes with no shortage of museums, history, and academic spaces to explore.

I also checked out some museums like the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Museum of Zoology. Whilst some were more impressive than others, it was genuinely cool seeing just how many museums, academic spaces, and cultural institutions Cambridge manages to fit within such a relatively small city.

Another thing I really appreciated was the people.

Everyone just felt super down to earth and welcoming. From the tour guides to the hotel staff, people were genuinely kind, easy to talk to, and just good vibes all around.

Only thing I would say… slight complaints guys…

THE PHONE SERVICE.

Why is it SO BAD?!

Please!!! Cambridge City Council, sort it out!!

But honestly, that’s about it.

Cambridge is a fantastic city to visit and surprisingly accessible from London too, with Great Northern, Greater Anglia, and Thameslink services running regularly throughout the day, getting you there in around an hour.

This was such a great trip.
